Events marking Nigerian Diaspora Day (July 25) and Annual Diaspora Conference Week are organised by the Nigerian National Volunteer Service (NNVS) Planning Committee. We will update all Pandiaspora members as soon as NNVS commences registration for the events.

NNVS has commenced registration for the 4th Science and Technology Conference and 3rd Nigeria Diaspora Day which will take place in the historic city of Calabar from 23 – 27, July, 2008.  Please follow this link at  http://www.fmst-nnvs.com/  to register for the NNVS Conference events. If you plan to be on the medical mission team, you must also regisiter for Pandiaspora Membership and as a Member of the Medical Mission Team. The Medical Mission Team is responsible for planning the Medical Mission activities starting 1st July to five different locations in the North and Southern Geopolitical zones.

The issue of third world Diasporans and the contributions they can make to transform their original homelands has of recent generated considerable global interest. Nigeria is among the countries that are determined to forge a constructive relationship with its huge number of Diaspora nationals scattered around the world. The Nigerian Diaspora has a huge and diverse resource potential and it is in recognition of this potential, that the Presidential Dialogue with the Nigerians in the Diaspora was initiated in 2000, leading to the formation of Nigerian National Volunteer Service (NNVS).

The Annual Nigerian Diaspora Conference is organised by the NNVS. It aims to establish strategic relationship between Nigerian Science and Technology experts in the Diaspora and their counterparts at home for the accelerated technological advancement of Nigeria. Each year over 500 delegates attend the conference. Nigerian Diaspora Day and Conference Events for 2008 will be held in the week of 23 - 28th July 2008 in Calabar, Cross Rivers State. The Nigerian Diaspora is very talented and resourceful and one of the most educated of the Diaspora communities. They are engaged in many aspects of human endeavour around the globe, especially in America and Europe where they are found in industries, businesses, schools, universities, hospitals, as entrepreneurs, lecturers, doctors, nurses, researchers, making value contributions to their host countries.

Indeed, a considerable number of the Nigerian Diaspora have distinguished themselves in the fields of science and technology and have been recognized globally for their contributions to the expansion and advancement of science and technology in the world. Thirdly, the urgent imperative to facilitate the establishment of partnerships with professional colleagues at home and to encourage the transfer of knowledge, skills and resources to complement efforts at mainstreaming science and technology in the socio-economic development of Nigeria. In addition, there is also the issue of institutional linkages. The Nigerian Diaspora plays very significant roles in this area. It is for these reasons that the 2nd science conference with the theme "strengthening partnerships with Nigerians in the Diaspora for science and technology development" was focused, especially in identifying projects and programmes that could be mutually executed in Nigeria.
